About LEARN'18
Would you like to gain in-depth knowledge on how to increase plant production? Or knowledge that may help you decrease the number of unexpected shutdowns?
LEARN’18 is Topsoe’s annual training event for technical staff at hydrogen and ammonia plants. Built around the module-based training structure of Topsoe Academy™, LEARN’18 will take you into the classroom and give you in-depth knowledge on how to trim and operate your plant, making it possible to run more safely, increase your production and avoid unexpected shutdowns.
Let our long experience lead to your shortcut. With LEARN’18, we can cut years off your learning curve. You’ll gain access to the knowledge we’ve acquired through our 75 years of designing new plants, revamping old ones, and supplying catalysts and proprietary equipment. Join LEARN’18 and learn how to assess and evaluate your plant including:
General plant assessment theory including heat exchangers, feed purification section, and shift reactors
Assessment of the steam reformer and convection section
Specific tools to assess performance key-equipment and reactors
What to look for during a visual inspection of the reformer tubes
And much more…
The above topics will all be covered during the three full-day courses, taking you through each reactor, their operating windows, and uncovering potential pitfalls.
Who should attend
This training event is designed for engineers and operators working within the hydrogen or ammonia industries, the target group is primarily younger engineers, but also engineers with more experience can benefit from this event and get their knowledge updated.
Target group
Years of plant experience - Engineers
0-2 - High benefit
2-5 - High benefit
>5 - Medium benefit
Prerequisites - Basic practical knowledge on plant operation, level of English: Good
The training will consist of group sessions, discussions, presentations and a high level of interaction ensuring optimum learning. Facilitated by Topsoe technical experts, the training event will cover a wide range of topics associated with hydrogen and ammonia plants and offers the opportunity to talk to Topsoe specialists about specific technical and operational issues. The training will have two tracks, one for hydrogen plants and one for ammonia plants, so your specific technology will be in focus.
Below please find more detailed information and schedule for our hydrogen and ammonia track.

Day 1: Plant Assessment
Assessing and optimizing your plant can lead to longer catalyst lifetimes and higher production rates. Our Plant Assessment course will teach you how to do this safely and effectively.
If you want more information on the Plant Assessment course, please click here.
Day 2: Loading & Reduction
Proper understanding of the procedures and safety precautions required in catalyst loading and reduction can save valuable time and maximize catalyst performance. Our Loading & Reduction course will make sure you are prepared for your next catalyst replacement.
If you want more information on the Loading & Reduction course, please click here.
Day 3: Steam Reformer Assessment
Our Steam Reformer Assessment course will teach you how to perform “health checks” on your steam reformer, and use the results to trim the performance of this critical plant component.
If you want more information on the Steam Reformer Assessment course, please click here.
Day 4: Upgrade your knowledge on the first days or gain new knowledge
During the first three days, you learn to assess the health of your plant in general as well as how to ensure a proper loading and reduction of your catalyst. On the fourth day, you get to choose if you’d like to delve even deeper into this topic. Day 4 will give you a higher level of understanding on the topic of optimization and will focus on trimming the plant so you can get even better performance. You can also choose to learn more about the different damage mechanisms effecting your plant, what causes them and how you can prevent them. There will be an introduction to this topic during the Steam Reformer Assessment course, but if you wish to go more in-depth, we have a full day with one of our in-house experts.
At the end of day 4, you can choose to take an exam on our Plant Optimization course and get certified by Topsoe Academy™.
