Haldor - Thor’s Rock – Blog

Fun fact … Google® Haldor and you will find that the name derives from Thor’s Rock.
Another fun fact … Haldor Topsoe publishes a blog.
I am on the mailing list for the blog, which is how I found out about the courses that Haldor Topsoe offers. Here is the latest post …

Dear JEAN STEINHARDT!
Here is the latest blog post from Haldor Topsoe:

How to stay on top of hydroprocessing and why training is the way to go
By Svend Ravn, 30.08.2018
Knowledge and knowledge sharing have been a part of Topsoe’s core identity since day one. We’ve been researching hydrotreating down to the atomic level since the early seventies, and in the mid-nineties, we expanded the hydroprocessing portfolio to also include hydrocracking. As our expertise grew, we’ve been creating more and more opportunities to share it with the customers.

Our experts come from various backgrounds to provide customers with training on variety of topics.
Unique knowledge exchange opportunity
Over the years, we’ve developed a range of courses and events for our customers to share valuable insights and expand our knowledge together. They provide a great knowledge exchange platform, often for very specialized and small communities of experts.
For example, a recent pilot plant workshop in Rio de Janeiro gathered a group of R&D specialists to discuss the best practices and challenges that they encounter on a daily basis. “The pilot plant community is a small one and there’s basically no other forum for these experts to meet and share their experiences,” says Sylvain Verdier, Senior Business Strategy Manager.
From hydrocracking to hydrotreating
Customers’ needs and pains are the main factor when it comes to designing our courses and events. The team organizing the events is composed of experts with various backgrounds, which enables us to offer a wide variety of topics at all levels of complexity.
For example, the upcoming hydroprocessing course, which we’ve been organizing yearly for the past 14 years, offers fundamental knowledge within hydroprocessing to refinery engineers in the beginning of their career. The course is revised regularly to touch upon relevant up-to-date topics, for example dewaxing and renewables.

The courses help customers to stay on top of the newest developments in refining.
On the other end of the spectrum we have more advanced seminars about hydrotreating and hydrocracking that take place every couple of years. Seminar attendees get to explore the latest hydroprocessing developments in the context of challenges and opportunities they have to face, for instance the changes in bunker fuel regulations. Together we discuss the future of the refining industry and the current trends.
The latest hydrocracking seminar in Denmark was one of the biggest events we ever organized with close to 40 companies and refineries from Asia, Americas, Russia, Middle East, and Europe present.
All over the world
We want to reach our customers wherever they are which is why our events take place all over the world. Recently, we trained operators working with hydrocracking in Chile and Spain, and there are upcoming events in China and Thailand.
Most of the seminars for the coming years are already scheduled. For example, in May 2019 in Denmark, we will discuss the key issues of upgrading renewable feedstocks in refineries. The RED II negotiations finally came to an end in Europe and ambitious new targets have been set. How will these be reached?
We are confident that knowledge, science, and technology are the right tools not only to solve such crucial challenges but also to grow together with our customers.
Check out some of our upcoming events here.

The role of the process engineer working with hydroprocessing, both hydrotreating and hydrocracking, is becoming increasingly more important, as the refiner strives for optimal solutions to obtain high-quality fuel products.
To be able to optimize the yield and quality of the products, it is crucial to understand the theory and practice of hydroprocessing. Topsoe offers you our popular intensive hydroprocessing course specifically designed for refinery engineers. The objective of this course is to equip engineers with tools, enabling right decision-making to obtain the highest possible benefit of the units.
Furthermore, it offers plenty of opportunities for discussing hydroprocessing issues with Topsoe’s experts and other hydroprocessing peers.

You Got This! Google Search Tips to Save You Time

You already know this. But with the time pressure of daily life, it helps to be reminded every once in a while.

When searching Google® Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/), you can use quotes to narrow your search.

For example, here are search statements designed to deliver results on the use of artificial intelligence in catalysis research

///////
Google® Scholar search statements:

artificial intelligence catalysis
27,700 results

Reduce the number of results to slog through by using quotation marks …

"artificial intelligence" catalysis
19,600 results

Interested in the most recent results? Click the Since 2018 link in the left hand column.

"artificial intelligence" catalysis since 2018
1,900 results

This may seem tedious, but remember how much time you’ll save browsing through your research reaults.
