Authors of a recent Harvard Business Review article surveyed more than 900 VC
respondents on a variety of topics, including deal flow. According to the
survey respondents, the best deals come from their network, which includes other investors, former colleagues, successful entrepreneurs,
and university professors.
If you are not connected to such a network, this post is for you.
No database will provide you with an instant network. Googling for such
databases will not help. HOWEVER, Googling CAN help you begin the arduous
process of building your venture capital network.
Some people are naturally gifted in building and maintaining networks. For
those of us who are network challenged, here are some tips to get you started …
TIP #1:
You may already have a network and you just don’t know it.
You have colleagues, past and present, who may not know you are interested in
entrepreneurship, whether you are an investor looking for good ideas, or someone
with a good idea looking for capital. LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com) can help you connect with
these people. Ask them for advice on who they might know who can help with
ideas and funding.
You might try a similar approach with college professors you may have studied
under, or alumni you have studied with.
Some will not respond, but you might be surprised at how many will offer
suggestions.
TIP #2:
When someone offers a suggestion, thank the source, then follow up … on every
suggestion. Do the work. It may take time, but eventually you will find the one
connection that makes it all worthwhile.

Rating LinkedIn Technical Groups

As a member of LinkedIn, I have joined a number of groups, some of which are quite useful. Other groups, not so much. I have decided to unjoin the groups that I do not find valuable.
The thing I most look for in technical groups is technical discussions. So I devised a simple personal rating system …from 1 (the highest rating for my purposes) to 5 (the lowest rating for my purposes) …
1 = a significant number of technical discussions
5 = no technical discussions found
These are my personal ratings … I don’t mean them to be a rating of the quality of the groups for other people, who may value other types of content … I am interested only in the technical discussions, and rate the groups according to what I am looking for.

I am working on a project about alternative fossil fuel solutions. In this context we are currently researching the knowledge of emulsion fuel technology within boiler-using industries.
Since this group consists of users within this segment, it would be highly usable for our data collection as you could represent concrete users.
Can anybody tell me what types of technologies have been using in Orinoco heavy oil belt in the past 3 years? I appreciate your cooperation.
Heavy oil C3 coking in tubular steam heater.
Heavy oil C3 1,0, low sulfur content, is burnt in a boiler and is to be heated from 30C to 135C before burning. A shell tube heater is used.
After some 3 month the heater has to be cleaned due to coking on the oil side/shell. The coking is caused by asphaltenes.
They cut of the heater and evacuate the oil. Then fill it with acids, do hydromechanical washing etc. It is time consuming, waste producing procedure.
What they could do with this problem?
Any additive preventing coking but not afecting burning process?
