Engineering Alert: Saudi Arabia’s Net-Zero World Narrative

Saudi Arabia’s Net-Zero World Narrative , produced by the esteemed Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (https://www.fraunhofer.de/en), is a rich read. In essence, the report is an objective description of the Saudi long term plan to go green, and an assessment of how realistic the plan is.

The study argues that there is a substantial gap between the Kingdom’s ambitions and implementation  and questions some of the practical complexities of the overarching Circular Carbon Economy  (CCE) approach.

The CCE is presented as a management system aimed at minimizing, reusing, and storing carbon, viewing it as a tradable commodity rather than a negative externality.

Policy makers will read this document carefully. Not just to remind themselves of things they already know, but also to help themselves understand how all the facts interweave into a fabric consisting of the warp and woof of aspiration and accomplishment in the effort to address climate change.

Engineers … the smart ones … will read this document as well. They will read it to understand how they can create solutions to make the aspirations a reality.

Conference Alert & Call for Speakers: Carbon Tracking and Reporting Canada Conference

“The simplest toy, one which even the youngest child can operate, is called a grandparent.” -- Sam Levenson

I am a grandfather. I am in pretty good health for a man of my age. But I know that I will not be around to experience the worst effects of global warming. I also know that my grandkids will be. That pains me. So I am excited whenever a conference dedicated to climate change issues announces an event.

A recent email alerted me to the 2nd Annual Carbon Tracking and Reporting Canada Conference, to be held in Calgary, Alberta. The dates of the conference will be, either, November 29-30, or December 5-6, 2023. There is a bit of a discrepancy on their Web site (https://carbontrackingandreporting.energyconferencenetwork.com/canada23)

I’m sure they’ll clarify soon. In any case, it is worth considering the call for speakers. Here is the text of the email I rec’d describing the event.

///////
Having run the inaugural event in November of 2022, we are excited to announce our 2nd Annual Carbon Tracking and Reporting Canada Conference will be held on November 29-30, 2023, in Calgary.

This conference is a must-attend event for professionals dedicated to tracking and reducing carbon and methane emissions in Canada in alignment with Canada's 2030 emissions targets. ESG has quickly become the focus of many investors in the oil and gas industry, making metrics a mandatory demand before any investment.

Call for Speakers
Oil & gas operators interested in presenting a case study or joining a panel session are encouraged to contact me to discuss a place in this year's program.

Sponsorship/Exhibition Now Open
If you are interested in a sponsored speaking session, showcasing your solutions in our buzzing exhibition area, hosting private meetings, branding your company as a leader in emissions tracking, and meeting with hundreds of qualified buyers, all in just two days out of the office, download the sponsorship prospectus.

A Conference Is Coming! Carbon Tracking and Reporting

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.”  -- Native American Proverb (https://curious.earth/ )

Reasonable people acknowledge that the world is experiencing the effects of climate change. And reasonable people recognize that there is money to be made in addressing this challenge. These reasonable people include corporations, like Aramco, Baker Hughes, BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Kinder Morgan, Lyondell Basell, Marathon Oil, Mitsubishi, and Shell.

Each of these corporations is an attending organization in the Carbon Tracking & Reporting Conference March 29-30, 2023, Houston, TX (https://carbontrackingandreporting.energyconferencenetwork.com/ )

Anyone playing the long game in the energy transition arena will want to consider attending this conference.

TIP: When you visit the Web page describing the Carbon Tracking & Reporting Conference, click on their link for the Post Event Report for the March 2022 conference in Houston, Texas … or, click on the link below:
https://energyconferencenetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/2022-Carbon-Tracking-Reporting-PSR.pdf

The Report includes a list of speakers. One conference topic that jumped out at me was blockchain. Two speakers on the topic were …

Gino Valverde
CFO and Head of ESG Product Development
Blockchain For Energy

and

Raj Rapaka
Upstream Digital Transformation Advisor /
Board Member ExxonMobil /
Blockchain For Energy

TIP: An easy way to dip your toe into the blockchain stream is to Google® the phrase blockchain for energy.
